Santa has many different names around the world! Papa Noel (Brazil), Pere Noel (France), Father Christmas (Germany, Britain, Latvia), Santa Claus (Canada, United States, China), Santa Kurohsu (Japan) , Saint Nicholas (Russia)

The world’s biggest Christmas tree (76 m high) was put up in America in 1950.

 

In India, they decorate banana trees at Christmas time.

 

 Decorations should be taken down by the twelfth night (6th January).

In Latvia, the children get a present from Father Christmas on Christmas Eve and for 11 days afterwards.

 In Spain, Santa climbs up the balcony with the children’s presents.

 In many countries Santa comes down the chimney to deliver presents.

 The first Christmas cards were sent in England in 1843.

 Christmas crackers were invented in England in 1848.

 “Silent night” was written for a choir when the church organ broke down.

 A long time ago, people hung mistletoe over their doorways because they believed it kept away evil spirits.
